Jursik, Whipkey highlight as Week 2 Winners

This past weekend was the second running of Norton Raceway Park’s season, with an amazing crowd turnout and sparks flying since the green flag waved. Bringing in our newest division, the ACE Racing League, while seeing familiar favorites like the Street Stocks and Late Models brought the NRP fans excitement and fun for the evening. We thank all our fans for their support!

With that said, here is the recap of the races from June 1st:

Bandoleros: Chloe Mazzagatti’s Dominant Performance

After the green flag waved, Chloe Mazzagatti of the #87 Bandolero was able to work her way through the field and have a dominating performance throughout the night, winning both the heat and feature in her division. Although a late-race caution happened that could end the potential sweep, Mazzagatti was able to hold on and end her day in victory lane.

Trophy Stocks: Noah Kaufman’s Back-to-Back Wins

Much like Mazzagatti, the #17 of Noah Kaufman was able to win his features in back-to-back weekends, showing his smooth driving and performance in the Trophy Stock division. Once the green flag waved, it was smooth sailing for Kaufman, who got to the front of the field and never looked back until the checkered flag.

Legends: Ryan Jursik’s First Win

After two intense heat races within the Legends division, it was exciting what type of racing the feature could potentially hold. Due to a complete restart at the beginning of the feature race, the drivers had an extra opportunity to get their race headed in the right direction. Ryan Jursik of the #410 Legend was able to take advantage of this, en route to his first ever feature win at Norton Raceway Park, leading all 25 laps in a solid performance.

Street Stocks: Dennis Wood Masterclass

Dennis Wood of the #88 Street Stock was able to, once again, show his staggering display of speed throughout the entire feature. Battling with drivers such as the #32 of Cody Collmar and #42 of Tim Schmitt, two fierce competitors, Wood was able to cruise into victory lane after an intense feature of side-by-side racing, winning his second feature of the season and demonstrating his pace in the Street Stock Division.

ACE Racing League: Farrar Family with a 1-2 Finish

The ACE Racing League made its debut at Norton Raceway Park this past weekend, showing a staggering display of intense racing. We were able to see the sparks fly in the feature, with close racing between the #95 of T.J. Farrar and the #59 of Tim Farrar. Although a late race caution had occurred, the father and son duo were able to battle it through to the end, with T.J. winning the first ever ACE Racing feature held at Norton Raceway Park.

Late Models: The Whip is Back

The green flag fell in the 30-lap feature for the Late Model, with last week’s winner, Mike Mazzagatti, hard charging through the field, leading a portion of the race. However, the #59 of Gary “The Whip” Whipkey had a blazing fast car all day and was able to work his way to the front after an intense battle with Mazzagatti. Whipkey took the lead, and it was smooth sailing for the #59 machine through the checkered flag, earning his first feature win of the season.

Compacts: Sallinger’s Drive to Victory

The feature race of the Compact division was nonetheless thrilling and full of battling throughout the entire field. At the front of the pack was the #52 of Jeremy Sallinger and the #427 of Josh Huff. The two were competing for the win during the entire race, ultimately resulting in Sallinger earning his first win of the 2024 season, with Huff right on his tail. Expect to see these two battle it out in next week’s race!

The second night of racing at Norton Raceway Park was full of excitement and intensity for fans and drivers alike. We hope to see everyone this upcoming weekend for similar action, potentially with a special event! Thank you to all the fans, drivers, and workers for your continued support of Norton Raceway Park!

Our divisions for June 8th will be: Bandoleros, Trophy Stocks, Legends, Street Stocks, Modifieds, and Compacts
